PPM laboratories attended the 2nd edition of the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Day which took place at the Roi Beaudoin Hospital in Guédiawaye on September 7. PPM supported the association Taxawuma Assistance Handicap, which is very active in improving the living conditions of people suffering from this disease.
This disease, which affects almost exclusively boys, begins in early childhood and patients may present a delay in locomotor development (after the age of 18 months) accompanied by a language disorder and/or a delay in overall development. The disease progresses rapidly and the child develops a “waddling” gait. Loss of walking occurs between the ages of 6 and 13 years. Once gait function is impaired, joint contractures and scoliosis develop rapidly. Untreated patients die between their late teens and early 20s from respiratory failure and/or cardiomyopathy.
Inadequately treated in Senegal, these patients need a great deal of assistance. PPM intends to contribute to this by making our product KEM Probiotics available to the association. Living probiotics, well known for their applications in digestive and immune diseases, are now opening up to new territories such as stress, cardiovascular health, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The involvement of the microbiota in the intestine-brain axis is constantly being demonstrated and the list of probiotic promises is growing…
Moreover, due to the global aging of populations, neurodegenerative diseases and their treatments are at the center of current research issues. These encouraging results make living probiotics a new avenue for improving the quality of life of victims with neurodegenerative diseases.
To help improve their lives, PPM laboratories accompany the patients, their families, in their battle. Pushing for the Senegalese state to set up more structures adapted to the care of this disease such as centers of kinesitherapy, occupational therapist, etc. Let us recall that, in Senegal, KEM Probiotics is recognized by the health insurance, which confirms its effectiveness and its therapeutic interest.
